TransWild Alliance Mini Grants
2011 Mini Grant Application Instructions
The TransWild Alliance is a coalition of conservation advocacy organizations dedicated toreducing the impacts of highways on wildlife and natural resources. Many times, conservation organizations lack financial resources to actively participate in important public forums or respond to last minute opportunities for collaboration or advocacy.
The TransWild Alliance mini grants are intended to provide small, one-time grants to assist conservation organizations in meeting their goals and mission through projects, actions or activities that seek to reduce the impacts of highways on wildlife.
Amount: Grants of $2,500 each will be awarded to selected grantees.
Eligibility: All non-profit, non-governmental conservation advocacy organizations are eligible to apply for a TransWild Alliance mini grant. You do not have to be a TransWild Alliance member to apply, but you must be affiliated with an organization.
Application: Eligible organizations need to fill out the application in full and return it to minigrants(-at-)TransWildAlliance.org by June 1, 2011.
Reporting: Grantees will be asked for their most recent FORM 990 and expected to submit an interim report at six months and a final report after one year.
Selection committee: The selection committee will include five to ten conservation or transportation professionals with significant experience in the areas of road ecology, wildlife conservation, natural resource management and transportation planning and policy. Committee members are prohibited from applying for grants for themselves or their organizations. If any potential conflicts of interest arise, committee members and or applicants will be asked to discontinue involvement in the process, or be disqualified.
We highly encourage using TransWild Alliance mini grants to leverage other funding, such as through matching funds. We look forward to creativity and collaboration in your applications. Some possible uses:
- Host a workshop to create a wildlife habitat connectivity analysis
- Provide citizen science training and opportunities to monitor wildlife movement near a highway
- Matching funds for a Transportation Enhancements project (see enhancements.org)
- Attend the International Conference on Ecology and Transportation (see icoet.net)
If you have any questions regarding these instructions, the application, the grant(s) or the selection committee, please send your inquiries to minigrants(-at-)TransWildAlliance.org.
